Tree Planting Committee

MissionRittenhouse Square Philadelphia
To increase tree cover, to assist in the care of trees, and to help advocate for the removal of dead or dangerous trees within our boundaries.

Annually we assist members with the planting of approximately 35 trees by providing partial funding, plant material, and labor for tree planting. To receive this benefit, CCRA members must be current with their dues, obtain advance approval from the CCRA Office prior to planting, and arrange planting through Awbury Landscaping. Most recently we have inventoried empty tree pits and sent invitations to the appropriate property owners encouraging them to re-plant a tree with our assistance. A Tree Tenders group (Friends of Schuylkill River Park Tree Tenders) was formed through the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's TreeVitalize program. This program provides training to individuals and provides property owners with free trees.

How you can participate
If you would like a tree in front of your house and are a member of CCRA, email trees@centercityresidents.org. CCRA will pay half the cost of the tree and its planting (*this program is suspended in 2011; we hope to offer it again in 2012). The Tree Tenders program is available and provides street trees at no cost. To learn more about both programs, click here.

If you are already a Tree Tender and would like to join us to help plant trees and set up tree-maintenance days, please contact us. To become a Tree Tender, check out the PHS Site.
