CCRA HIGHLIGHTS:
Founded in 1947, CCRA is one of the city's oldest and most powerful civic
associations. It is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of
life in the area between South Street and JFK Boulevard, Broad Street to
the Schuylkill River. Organized originally to save Rittenhouse Square from
being dug up for an underground parking lot, CCRA over the years has helped
write the Center City Zoning Code; today, our Zoning Committee is certainly
its main enforcer.
- CCRA produced a Master Plan for Center City to serve
as a guide and template for the future development of our already wonderful
center city neighborhoods.
- CCRA conducts frequent member surveys to seek opinions
and ideas on a wide range of issues such as parking, taxes, litter and
trash, and non-partisan political questions.
- CCRA sponsors frequent public meetings to bring presentations
on major building and development projects before concerned members
and organizations.
- CCRA partners with nearly 100 area restaurants, merchants,
and cultural organizations to offer special discounts to CCRA
members.
- CCRA successfully lobbied for the creation of a neighborhood
public school - The Greenfield School, 22nd & Chestnut
Streets, which runs kindergarten through 8th grade.
- CCRA manages a community garden in Schuylkill River
Park and administers a tree planting program for its members to enhance
the streetscape.
- CCRA arranges for a weekly sidewalk sweeping in CCRA
neighborhoods and has initiated a program to remove graffiti from public
facilities.
- CCRA sponsors non-partisan political forums and meetings
on important local issues such as historic preservation and parking.
- CCRA organizes an elegant House Tour, now in its
47th year, to show off the joys and beauties of Center City homes and
apartments.
- CCRA, in association with HUB International, hosts Celebration
of Center City Living, at world- renowned Freeman's Auction
House.
- CCRA serves up an annual Community Supper/Groundhog Day Celebration.
This event is a combination of potluck dinner along with gourmet
offerings from some of CCRA's participating restaurant partners. It
is oriented toward family entertainment and is designed to help us meet
and visit with our neighbors.
- CCRA maintains a Safe Streets program through its
Police Liaison Committee.
- CCRA maps out a Halloween Treat-Trail each
year so that our young members can easily locate friendly houses and
candy stations to help fill their "goodies" bags.
- CCRA provides a rich banking package for members
through its partnership with Firstrust Bank.
- CCRA publishes and mails to its members a quarterly newsletter,
Center City Scene, to
keep members informed of important issues and events in our neighborhoods.
- CCRA holds an Annual General Membership Meeting to
which all members are invited. The meeting agendas include elections
of new Board Officers and Directors, presentation of awards for Historic
Preservation and Community Service, guest speakers on pertinent center
city issues, and a cordial meet-and-greet reception.
