Free Old Pine Conservancy Program Examines “Graveyard Excavations – Legal and Otherwise”

  • 29 Oct 2021
  • 6:00 PM
  • Old Pine Street Prebyterian Church, 412 Pine St

A forensic consultant and a former history professor who spends far too much time in a graveyard will describe Philadelphia’s present and past treatment of dead bodies.

Their free talk, which starts at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29, at Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 412 Pine Street, Philadelphia, is titled: “Graveyard Excavations – Legal and Otherwise.”

Kimberlee Moran, an educator at Rutgers University-Camden who leads off the program, was closely involved in the discovery and movement of almost 400 bodies from the First Baptist Church across from the Betsy Ross House on Arch Street. She’ll discuss the many unusual discoveries researchers have learned from those bodies.

Then Daniel Campbell, a board member of the Old Pine Conservancy, will speak on other graveyard excavations, better known in old-time Philadelphia as grave-robbing.

Campbell is a graduate of both Rutgers University-Camden and Temple University. He taught history at both Rutgers and Richard Stockton University.

The program will be held in the Duffield Room at Old Pine Presbyterian Church. Masks will be required and all CDC COVID requirements will apply. The public is invited.
